CASE STUDY: Simulation
For this assignment, you will analyze a case study, develop a simulation model in Excel, and prepare a short executive report (plus appendices) that discusses the conditions of the case and your recommendations. As you may be aware, many coffee shops have converted their traditional relaxing in-store atmosphere to a coffee-to-go drive thru establishment. However, many stores are not necessarily equipped to transition to a “drive thru” model rather must implement a curbside delivery. Since the coffee shops would like to make sure that all customized orders are made fresh, customers can only place and pay for their order by phone or app once they have arrived at the coffee shop. Once the order is ready, a barista will deliver the order to the customer, who remains in their car. When additional customers arrive at the store they will determine if there is space on the curbside waiting area, only if there is space will they place their order and wait in the car line until their turn to receive their customized order. Since some stores have large parking lots or sufficient waiting areas, the transition to the curbside model can be easily handled.
