Answer to Critical Thinking Questions:

  1. Mucor is a type of fungus that is commonly found in soil, decaying organic matter, and in the air. A patient is likely to become infected with Mucor when they inhale its spores, which can be present in dust, soil, and air. The fungus is known to cause infections in people with weakened immune systems, such as those with uncontrolled diabetes, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. Once the spores of Mucor enter the lungs, they can cause damage to the lung tissue and lead to inflammation and swelling. This, in turn, can progress to pneumonia, where the lungs become filled with fluid and pus, making it difficult to breathe. Medical and nursing interventions that can be helpful in treating the patient with Mucor pneumonia include antifungal medications such as amphotericin B and posaconazole, oxygen therapy, and mechanical ventilation.
  2. The laboratory blood test results indicate several abnormalities. The white blood cell count (WBC) is elevated, indicating the presence of an infection or inflammation. The platelet count is low, which may suggest the presence of a bleeding disorder or bone marrow dysfunction. The hemoglobin level is also low, indicating anemia, which may be due to blood loss or an underlying medical condition. The arterial blood gases show low levels of oxygen (hypoxemia) and high levels of carbon…order a customized answer here
