The purpose of this assignment is to learn about food awareness and realistic goal setting. You will start out by logging what you eat each day and how much physical activity you participate in. Then you will move on to answering some questions regarding your intake. Please listen to the audio of me explaining this assignment.

Step 1 Journaling
Please start out by journaling what you ate for three days out of the week. Be specific about the food you eat; for example, don’t just write bagel if there was something on it. Instead you should write bagel with cream cheese.

Step 2 Logging into the Program
Start by going to www.myplate.gov. Go to www.myfitnesspal.com. You should see a screen that looks like the one below. Click to sign up with email.

Step 3: Once you enter an email and password, they will want you to fill out some general information about yourself. They will want to know if you want to lose weight or maintain weight. Just answer how you would like to.

Once you answer a series of questions and click ok, you will be brought to a screen that looks something like the following:

Step 4: Click on Food to enter your food for the day. You should do this for three days—you can change the dates at the top. You can add food by clicking on add food under each heading—such as breakfast where you see the arrow below. Make sure you do a print screen of your food diary and paste it into a Word document. You can paste it into this document if you would like and then upload to D2L.

Step 5: Next click on the exercise tab above. Go through and record your physical activity for a week. Then click the view full report tab like below. Please do a print screen of the physical activity tracker and paste it into the Word document. NOTE: in order to get the full screen you may have to decrease the size of the screen by pressing the CTRL key and the minus key at the same time.

You should get your report that looks something like below. Do a print screen and paste into your homework.

3. Please analyze your daily limits for calories, sugars, carbs, protein, fat and sodium. How are you doing in these categories? Are you at the recommended amounts, are you over or under? You should do this for each of the days.

4. If you are over on calories, sugars, carbs, protein, fat, and sodium, please discuss what you could do to meet the goals that are suggested by my fitness pal. For example, what could you do to decrease sugar or fat if you are over on the recommended amount? Do this for sodium, fat and protein as well. You may be under on protein which is important so what could you do to increase it. If your food intake is really good, discuss what you would tell a client who is over on calories, sugars, carbs, fat and sodium and under on protein.

5. Please go back and click on the reports tab and scroll down to fiber, iron and calcium separately and see what your intake is for the three days you entered. Are you meeting your goal for these minerals? If not, what could you add to your diet that could get you closer to meeting your goals. Discuss for all three days. (no print screen needed)
