Read “Revising and Editing” (page 1481), paying careful attention to the ‘Questions for Writing: A Revision Checklist.’

Read “Revising” (page 1504).

Read “Strategies for Writing Essay Exams” (page 1521).
*All reading is from “The Compact Bedford Introduction to Literature” by Michael Meyer- make certain to include that in works cited page
After reading the short stories assigned this week, address the following questions in a unified response.

Choose one of the four stories and discuss its writing style. How is this style similar or different to some other things we have read, either this week or in past weeks? Was this style of writing effective for you? Why or why not?
What is the tone of the story? How might the story’s tone (and even its meaning) change if it was told from another point-of-view? Furthermore, what are some important examples of diction (the author’s word choice) in the story? Why do you think the author chose that specific word or words?
Did you find any examples of irony (verbal, situational, or dramatic) in the story you chose? Explain.
Remember: ALL of your responses should contain a strong, clear thesis AND it should be written in PARAGRAPHS that refer back to the thesis. One long paragraph is not acceptable in college level writing of this kind. All textual references (quotes, paraphrases) should be cited in MLA format (in-text citations and Works Cited).

Before you begin, make sure that you have a good sense of what style, tone, and irony are. In fact, it might be nice to incorporate some quick definitions or explanations into your answer.

And, remember, include a THESIS in your opening that clearly articulates what you are going to argue, and follow that with paragraphs (likely one on style, one on tone and one on irony.)
