Course Description
Provides a historical overview of the American juvenile justice system from the development of the juvenile court, juvenile
jurisdiction, and patterns of delinquency, including
gangs, training schools, probation, aftercare, family, school, and related
factors as well as intervention strategies.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1.
Identify and define criminal justice terms related to juvenile justice and apply those terms to the field of juvenile
justice.
2.
Analyze the historical impact in juvenile justice and assess the historical influence on recent innovations.
3.
Describe the vario
us theories related to juvenile justice and correlate the application of those theories in practice.
4.
Examine and explore the Juvenile Justice System and determine the infrastructure required to maintain this
system.
5.
Identify and describe methodological m
easurement of juvenile crime and explore the influence of the findings on
juvenile justice strategies.
6.
Describe juvenile victims.
7.
Analyze the process of dealing with juveniles in the adult court system and explore the interaction of the various
functions
as each relates to the juvenile process.
8.
Identify and analyze the various juvenile justice programs and assess the effectiveness of juvenile probation and
community

based programs in respect to combating juvenile issues.
9.
Appraise the process as juvenile
s pass through the system and determine the proper treatment of juvenile
offenders from inception to release.
10.
Analyze the juvenile offender and explore the criminology studies that focus on the determination of juvenile
crimes as well as proposals for pro
active direction toward corrective practices.
11.
Investigate international juvenile justice operations in comparison to state and federal juvenile laws as well as the
blending of these laws within a multi

cultural community.
