Tele nursing; Is it in My future?
Telehealth has the unique capability of achieving health equity by crossing temporal, so- cial, and geographical barriers to healthcare. Computers, interactive video transmissions, telecon- ferences by telephone or video, and direct links to healthcare instruments are tools used to de- liver these services. Electronic, visual, and audio signals sent during these conferences provide information to consultants from remote sites. Many common medical devices have been adapted for use with telemedicine technology. Distant practitioners and clients benefit from the skills and knowledge of the consultants without the need to travel (Hebda,Czar p. 504). The future Outlook on Tele-nursing Many providers predict that tele-health will change the way that healthcare is delivered and carve out new roles for healthcare providers. Changes have already started. The way that consumer rights and responsibilities are viewed is changing with the increased use of new tech- nology to deliver care. Telehealth offers new means to locate health information and communi- cate with practitioners through e-mail and interactive chats or video-conferences. It provides new ways to monitor clients. Smart surveillance cameras and analytical software can be used in the home environment to notify caregivers of changes in activity, falls, or lack of movement in the homes of elderly clients (Butcher, 2015). Most importantly from my research, Readmission penalties have hospitals scrambling to find new ways to enhance post-discharge care and detect problems early, before a patient lands in the ER.
