Medicare Expansion 2 Abstract What is the number of people in the United States that does not have healthcare insurance as the healthcare industry continues to evolve? What is the best solution to fix this issue? There are many individuals in the United States who have encouraged the government to create the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This act was created to potentially help many low- income adults within the United States to obtain healthcare coverage. Although, all states are not on board with the idea of the Affordable Care Act and there are still some people who are without coverage. There are still a number of individuals who think that all states should be encourage to make an effort to join in the Affordable Care Act. In, this paper I will discuss three principles of ethics involved with the choices the government has made with the choice of many states being able to opt out of the Affordable Care Act.
Medicare Expansion 3 When then President Obama pushed for the Affordable Care Act it seemed really possible for better opportunities for people. There have been close to twenty-three states who have confirmed that they would not participate in the Medicaid Expansion. The main reason of the Affordable Care Act was to bring focus to those individuals whose income level was below the federal level. This would give those specific individuals a fair chance at being able to gain health care coverage. The previous law required that states expand coverage to everyone making less than 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) or they could potentially lose the federal funding to Medicaid (“Obama Care Medicaid Expansion,”201 6). The cost of expansion is one reason that some states are skeptical. These states would rather expand coverage to individuals with income below 100% instead of 138% (Price, 2013).
