Behavior styles are the determining characteristics of an individual’s persona. These traits give insight to others as to our behavior in certain environments. They determine whether or not we are dominant, cautious, steady or interactive. Each style is different and while there are pros and cons to all of the styles, each also has the ability to compliment each other. Behavioral styles are an integral part to the dynamics of a team or group and in order to have an effective team one must first understand that the different nuances about the behavioral styles that make up each team member. There are assessments available to assist us with analyzing these styles and letting us know which one of the styles we are. The DISC Platinum Rule Behavioral Style Assessment was viewed to determine our individual personas, then compare, and contrast the behavioral styles of each team member and how they work together as a team. Society as a whole exhibits multiple behaviors that affect not only the business world but our personal lives as well. The primary behavioral styles researched by the assessment are the Dominant, Interactive, Steadiness, and Cautious styles. When working within teams throughout the business world, these styles can affect teamwork and the productivity flow of the team. Thus it is crucial for the team to exam the types of styles that its members possess and how best to merge those styles for the most effective results. The first behavior style that will be addressed is the dominant behavioral style shared by three of our four team members. Josh’s Behavioral Style Amber’s Behavioral Style While still dominant, Amber’s behavioral style is slightly different from Josh. The more direct dominant style is that of an individual who is a logical thinker, examines all the facts and information thoroughly, and is consistently striving to be the best at any given job. This dominant “Adventurer” would prefer to be delegating to others, feeling the desire to be in charge, or lead the group towards goals. Being a direct dominant person, Amber has the tendency to speak in a firm tone, and often uses hand gestures when speaking to a group. The fast-paced direct individual will speak out in a group, and introduce themselves to new people without hesitation. As a frequent contributor, a direct individual has no qualms about sharing their opinion with others, whether it is one on one, or a group setting. Some opportunity that a direct dominant person will face is openness to others ideas and opinions, as well as patience for others to catch on to tasks and assignments. While dedicated to the goals of the team, the direct leader can be impatient and insensitive when it comes to the needs and feelings of others.
