In the original years of human kind, population rates were very low and grew extremely slow. There was a long period of stationary growth until around 1000 B.C. Stationary growth describes when a population that is stable, experiences no loss or gains. The reason for this was high death rates, general poverty, unsanitary conditions, disease, etc. From 1000 B.C. to around 1750 B.C. the human population experienced a slow growth rate, or rise in population rates worldwide. The reason for this rise was the deathrate began to decline thanks to more sanitary conditions, the introduction of certain medicines, food availability, etc. From 1750 to around 1950 the world’s human population had doubled. This was thanks to new medicines that could treat disease, low mortality/high birth rates, sanitation, food, etc. in less developed countries. “After 1750, the world’s population grew substantially; by 1950 it had tripled to around 2.5 billion. In this 200-year period, the doubling time was 122 years. Growth from 1950 to 1985 was even more dramatic; by 1985, the human population was 5 billion. World population had doubled in thirty-five years. By 2000 global population was 6 billion and is projected to be 9 billion in 2050”. Beginning over 7,000 years ago, it was discovered that contaminated waters caused some diseases. It was determined way back then that fresh or clean water was needed for daily use. In medieval times and during the 19thCentury, sanitation was rarely ever used due to dirty, overcrowded cities.
