In my life, I have had to overcome various issues such as wars at home, losing friends through bombings, and leaving my family to come to the United States (one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make). I had to forget an old life, leaving behind friends and family, and start a new life where I could have the ability to achieve my dreams. Undergoing such challenges and life struggles has made me a stronger person and I have gained patience and understanding. I have learned that we all struggle and these struggles affect us differently. As an example, when I first arrived I could not speak and understand the language (English) and had to slowly and patiently work my way from the bottom.

After I enrolled in biology and chemistry coursework at Cuyamaca College. These courses led me to develop a greater understanding and passion for the scientific underpinnings of the discipline. Working as a biology tutor at this time also enabled me to further my understanding of these subjects while helping other students.

In addition to coursework, I have also gained professional work experience in the field through working as a pharmacy technician at Nudo’s Pharmacy, participating in the University of California San Diego Pre-Pharmacy Society and my volunteer events. Overall, my education, past experiences, and love for people have given me a solid candidate for admissions to the University of California. These challenges I overcame in order to achieve a better life and accomplish my dream of becoming a pharmacist were difficult but they are proof that I am serious and determined to achieve my dreams.
