• Compare and contrast the companies. Do some specialize in one area of environmental consulting?
• Pick one of the companies to recommend in your report.
  • Which assessment services do you think your company will use initially to identify contamination? o If contamination is found in the initial assessment, what services do you think your company will use?

Your report should be at least two pages in length and should contain citations and references in APA style. Your citations will be from your chosen companies’ websites. Unit II PowerPoint Presentation

Choose one chemical from the Target Compound List/Target Analyte List (TCL/TAL) from the Superfund program and one from the Safe Drinking Water Act list. Create a PowerPoint presentation on the chemical characteristics of these chemicals. Include a title slide, an introduction slide, at least two slides for each chemical, and a references slide. Make sure that all sources are cited and referenced properly using APA style. For each chemical, your slides should contain the following information:

1. Include the chemical structure of each chemical chosen.
2. Include at least two important chemical properties that affect fate and transport for each chemical, such as octanol-water partition coefficient, organic carbon-water partition coefficient, and diffusion coefficient.
3. Include a discussion of how the two properties you chose for each chemical affect fate and transport of the chemical in the subsurface.
4. If a spill of each chemical were to occur, where would the chemical likely be found (soil, water, air), and what are some of the potential health effects?

Unit III Scholarly Activity

You are conducting a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at a former industrial site. At the time of the reconnaissance, you have not yet completed the historical review or talked to the site manager. The site has one building, and the remainder of the site is grass and broken pavement. During the reconnaissance, you note the following:

1. an above ground storage tank with no visible staining under it,
2. a vent pipe coming from the ground with a large patch of dead grass surrounding it,
3. a work area in the building that contains floor drains and is heavily stained, 4. an electric transformer that appears to be intact with no staining near it, and
4. five monitoring wells and three patched boreholes.

You must now write the site reconnaissance section of your Phase I ESA report. In at least one page, discuss your findings. Which of the findings are areas of concern (AOCs)? Which would be considered recognized environmental conditions (RECs)? Be sure to justify your findings based on the E1527 definitions of an REC. Include in-text citations as well as full references at the end of your report in APA format.

Unit IV Case Study

You are conducting a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) on an abandoned gas station. A Phase I ESA was performed, and the following areas of concern were noted:

1. One potentially leaking underground storage tank (UST) is noted: The bottom of the UST is at six feet below the surface.
2. A former machine shop is across the street: An active remediation for various solvents and petroleum products is ongoing. An environmental records agency search showed that groundwater flow direction appears to go across Knights Road (see map). Additionally, the groundwater monitoring wells at the machine shop site indicate an approximate groundwater level of 6.5 feet.
3. You note a drain within the building that had stains around it and a suspicious odor emanating from it: The building is old, and leaking drain pipes are a possibility.

Using the map (click here) and Excel file (click here), put together your sampling and analysis plan. In a separate Word document, explain your reasoning for each soil/water/air sample you list. Be sure to provide a reason for the media, location, depth, and analyses for each sample you propose. Your client’s budget is limited, and the client will want to know that each sample is serving an important purpose. If you are not sure of the exact depth, you can also indicate whether the sample should be below the water table or above it. See page 114 of your textbook for a list of contaminants associated with common businesses and page 115 of your textbook for an example of a sampling and analysis plan (SAP). Submit both the Excel file and your Word document. Your sampling and analysis plan should consist of at least two pages, and any citations and references used should be in APA style.

Unit V PowerPoint Presentation

You have conducted a remedial investigation at your client’s site. The site is contaminated with petroleum products in the soil and the groundwater. Imagine that the client wants to see a presentation on the various remedial technologies that might be used at her site. Create a presentation for the client that details five remedial actions that might work at the site. Your presentation should include the following information for each remedial strategy.

1. How does the system work?
2. What are the pros and cons of each remedial strategy
3. What types of feasibility studies would you perform?

Your presentation should consist of at least 15 slides, and you should use the speaker’s notes to narrate the presentation as if you were giving the presentation to the client. Be sure to use in-text citations in the speaker’s notes or on the slides, and include a reference slide. The title slide and reference slide are not included in the minimum slide count discussed above.

Locate two articles in the CSU Online Library referring to surface water restoration.

Provide a one-page analysis of each article. Your analysis should include the following information:

Unit VII Assignment

This assignment requires you to use www.piktochart.com to create an infographic on the risks of lead-based paint. Create a free account, and use a free template (one not labeled “pro”) to create your infographic. When you are done, click “Download” on the upper right-hand side of the screen. Choose .jpeg as the file format, and download the image to your computer for submission in Blackboard. Note: In the Download window, you may have to right-click your infographic and click “Save As” to get it to save where you would like it to save on your computer. Your infographic should contain the following information:

• What is lead-based paint, and where is it likely to be found?
• What are the health hazards of lead-based paint?
• How is a building assessed for lead-based paint risk?  If there is a risk, how can the risk be mitigated?

The textbook contains too much data to put on the infographic. Part of this assignment is to interpret the data to communicate what you decide is important. You may even want to manipulate the data (add some of the categories together, for example) to create a meaningful infographic. Your goal should be to educate someone about what leadbased paint is, why it is important, and what actions should be taken—all in one graphic. Be creative!

Unit VIII Assignment

In this assignment, you are an environmental consultant who has been hired by the owner of a commercial building to complete a radon survey. His building is three stories high with a basement that is mostly below ground. The basement is finished, and there are people who work in the basement level as well as on the other two floors.

Your client wants you to send him a detailed contract. Use the contract template (click here) to describe how you will conduct the radon survey on his building. Be sure to include the following information in your scope of work:

• What type of radon testing devices will you use?
• Where will you place the devices?
• What is the timeframe of the testing?
