Background: Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle had a monumental effect on the meat packing industry in the early 1900’s in the United States. His
intention, however, was to affect change in the treatment of the workers. He said, “I aimed for the public’s heart, and, by accident, hit it in
the stomach.” The nauseating descriptions of meat packing jump off of the page, but the deplorable treatment of the working immigrants is the
intended focus of Sinclair’s book. It is said, of Elzbieta’s day, “It was stupefying, brutalizing work; it left her no time to think, no

One ofthe components that is often missing from the evaluation papers I grade are specific production details about each film or video for the
evaluation
essay. These details include the release date. the production company and the director. for instance. They need to be woven into your sentences like
this:

Digital Marketing plan for a Fortune 500 company
The Goal:
Create a 2016 Digital Marketing Plan for a Fortune 500 company. You have $1 million in advertising dollars to allocate between paid search
marketing, affiliate program(s), banner ads, and email campaigns. Your campaign will run from 6/1/16 to 6/30/16 across the channels you choose.
The Process:
Select one company from Fortune magazine’s “World’s Most Admired Companies”. (see link below) (*You may select a different company with approval.)
Determine what the overall strategy for the company would be: brand awareness, direct response or lead generation.
Describe how you would allocate the money and why. Your choices should be based on measurable attributes and calculations. Do not just allocate
money to a channel for no reason. I’ve included cost information for each channel below. You’ll have to estimate orders (for DR companies) and or
“actions” for any company that is collecting customer lead information. You’ll need to calculate overall spend by channel for brand awareness
clients. Be sure to spend the full media budget in the best way possible based on the company’s needs and the goals of the strategy you select.
You’ll need to calculate cost for each channel in order to determine how the money is being used. A “calculated metrics” table can be found at the
end if you need help with what metrics to calculate.
Identify what the major theme or key message would be for each channel. For example, if you choose Apple, the overall message might be “The
Greenest Computers on Earth”. Describe how you would translate that message to each medium/channel.
EXAMPLES:
Display: Banner ads would display a computer with green grass growing around it.
Email: Subject Line: Buy the greenest computer on earth. Inside the email you would see “Buy Now” links with a “grass” background.
Search Keywords: green computer, green computers, apple computer, green apple computer, etc.
Affiliate: Launch onto computer review websites such as engadget.com.
Do not take the above to be complete examples. Your answers should be much more thought out and complete. Use real world examples as inspiration.
Be as creative as you can.
Plan the “flight dates” for each channel. You decide when and for how long each channel should run. You may choose to do two email blasts during
the four weeks, have banner ads live for all four weeks and run a paid search campaign for the middle two weeks. Provide the dates and the reason
you would choose the flight date for each channel.

WINSTON CHURCHILL’S IRON CURTAIN SPEECH
There are many ways to get a feel for the events of the 20th Century. One way is through the analysis of primary source documents. Few
documents set the stage for the second half than Winston Churchill’s 1946 speech in Fulton, Missouri. Officially entitled “The Sinews of
Peace”, it came to be known as “The Iron Curtain Speech”, in which Churchill laid out the challenges for the West in general, and the US and
Britain in particular, regarding what would soon be known as the Cold War. Your assignment this week is to not just read Churchill’s speech,
but read between the lines to answer the following questions in a well written 2-3 page document:
1. Churchill believes the Soviet Union “desires the fruits of war and the indefinite expansion of their power and doctrines.” How might
those expansionist desires challenge the Western principle of national political self determination, a cause it championed during World War 2?
2. Churchill’s speech acknowledges “Russia’s need to be secure on her western borders,” but at the same time it raises concerns about
Soviet actions in Eastern Europe. Is Churchill being inconsistent? Or does he provide concrete justifications for those concerns?
3. In his speech, Churchill asserts “There is nothing they (the Russians) admire so much as strength, and nothing for which they have less
respect for than military weakness.” If he isn’t advocating a direct military confrontation with the Soviet Union, then what is he saying?
4. Churchill delivered this speech to an American audience, but after reading it one might conclude it could have been given in any western
country. Why did he pick the US?

the implementation of cooperative Ieaming specifically through the vehicle of teamwork in
the social influence units of AS psychology classes. VWIbur High is a pseudonym created for
the research school for confidentiality and ethical purposes. The research questions are as
follows:
1. What are students’ experiences and perceptions of cooperative learning as part of their
learning at Mlbur High?
2. In what ways do students understand and create opportunities for cooperative learning
processes within the Social Influence unit of Advanced Subsidiary level psychology?
