I had an issue with one part of this course, it had one assumption presented in it. It presumed that every classmate taking this class was in a current profession. Truthfully, I don’t have a paying job and I am not in a specific profession, yet. However, I currently, make unique one of a kind jewelry pieces and help my mother-in-law to build her jewelry business on a very part-time unpaid basis. I am also, studying for degrees in entrepreneurship and environmental studies, along with minors in finance and marketing.

While I currently don’t have a job or business profession, I have had to be very creative and innovative to get where I am today. The question before me begs the question, what is my personal level of creativityin business practices? Well I guess that means I should know just what business creativity is. According to an article, this month, in the journal of Applied Psychology, “Employee creativity is defined as the generation of both novel and useful ideas” (Chang et al, 2014).
Ok so, now I am wondering what novel and useful ideas are? A novel ideaaccording to the Cambridge dictionary is new and original: not like anything seen before and usefulis helping you to do or obtain something. Ok so, I am not so sure that my business ideas have been novel on a broader business scale, but within this small family owned jewelry business my ideas and knowledge gained, in school, have been very novel and useful. Additionally the self-concordant model suggests that “individuals are likely to achieve goals that are concordant with their interests and values” (Hon, 2008). This statement resonates with me.
If I am disinterested in the goal chances are I won’t work creatively. However, when something is interesting to me, my so called, creative juices flow. I get excited and very motivated to work. This, however, isn’t the entire story. I believe that I am a creative person, and here is my story of creativity.I realized, a while ago, that if you’re going to do something, do it right! That is what led me back to school after about 20 years without it. But my journey to get here isn’t as simple as it sounds. I have had to be very creative in my journey to now. You see I am disabled. I was told by my doctor that I can’t hold down a fulltime position and may be on disability for the rest of my life. Ho……………………………
