COUN5006 Unit 4 Assignment – Evaluation of a Quantitative Study Sailson Jose das Gracas (42); Pedro Rodrigues Filho (71); Gary Leon Ridgway (48); H. H. Holms (27, but likely many more); Luis Garavito (140 children); each of these men differ categorically in age, culture, location, and era where they resided. None of them knew where theother existed or that they were also dabbling in the same malevolent hobbies. However, each shared one uncommon and difficult to define trait: psychopathy. Some of these men grew up with means, education, and wealth, while others struggled to survive in some of the poorest countries in the world. Psychopathy, although rather uncommon throughout the world populous is commonly and inaccurately associated only with violence. To the contrary, most individuals who inhibit thepsychopathic traits often exhibit no violent tendencies and frequently can be seen holding predominate positions in societies. Research into better understanding the psychopathic brain has been a long and arduous task, with only the last few decades providing the technological advantages to root out some significant data. More to point, Simmons et al., (2015) recently published a quantitative study Punishment and psychopathy: A case-control functional MRI investigation of reinforcement learning in violent antisocial personality disordered men focusing on the neurotransmitters within brain activity reacted to specific stimuli(PPMRI). The findings eluded to some significant possibilities, of which will be explored and discussed. The ProblemIn understanding the dimensions of the study, the researchers stress the importance of understanding the complexities of the observed disorders. First, two disorder groups are being observed comprised of males diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (APD) and males diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder andpsychopathy (APDP), both defined by the psychopathy checklist-revised assessment (Simmons et al., 2015). These two groups comprise

Those afflicted with APDP often begin their criminalistics behavior earlier in life and tend to enact a more diverse set of offending behaviors, increase the frequency of criminal acts, and respond poorly to commonly used rehabilitative methods (Simmons et al., 2015). With the significantly high-risk behaviors of offenders with APDP, it is critical that the diagnostic process and rehabilitative methods provide scientific and effective procedures which can reliably distinguish the two factions. To date, no classification system, or methodologies to support this distinction exists, and it is with significant interests to the mental health and criminal justice community such possibilities get explored (Simm
