  • Explain the theory, including its pros and cons
  • Explain how the moral theory relates to society as a whole
  • Explain how the theory works with the moral dilemmas that arise in cyberspace

Utilitarianism is a theory that helps individuals assess whether an action is wrong or right. An action will be considered good or bad depending on the outcome it will produce. If the action benefits the greatest number of people in a group or society then it is the morally correct choice. If the action has a negative effect, then it is morally wrong. There are some pros and cons to this theory.
Pros:
1. Promotes and focuses on happiness
2. Gives a strong sense of purpose
3. Helps individuals think of others
Cons:
1. Not all actions can be predicted correctly on whether they are right or wrong
2. Who is deciding whether an action is right or wrong
3. Can be time consuming rationalizing every action
Utilitarianism when it comes to cyberspace is a difficult moral theory to adhere by. The textbook gives a good example of a company wanting to inspect employee email and how that applies to utilitarianism. The company feels that they should be

Female Executive.
